Octave Technology
Targets Emerging Market Opportunity Ellicott City, MD - April 4, 2005 - Octave Technology, Inc. has identified a developing and growing opportunity within the Wireless Sensor Networking (WSN) market. With most WSN innovation to date being focused primarily on the hardware and embedded software, Octave is focusing on a significant gap in the delivery and management of sensor data. Octave has begun the development of OCTAVEX, a middleware framework that will bridge the gap between wireless sensor hardware and a company’s existing IT infrastructure. “This marks a significant change in our focus” says Rick Morani, President of Octave Technologies. “While we will continue to support our existing AutoID products, the WSN market has tremendous growth potential over the next five years. We view this as an emerging market with without a significant industry leader in the middleware space. We intend to be that leader.” OCTAVEX, expected for beta release in the third quarter
of 2005, will utilize the latest in Web Services technology
to provide a reliable middleware framework that delivers
real-time wireless sensor data to existing IT systems. This
enterprise quality software product will be built using
industry standard protocols, such as XML & SOAP, to ensure a
system that is platform independent, easily scalable, and
highly redundant. The web services architecture will
eliminate a single point of failure and offers a number of
critical features such as authentication and encryption. The
OCTAVEX Core Services will provide critical business logic
“out of the box” through components such as a Rules Service
and Alerting Service. The OCTAVEX platform will be a
powerful framework alone or easily customized for specific
applications through reusable software libraries, exposed
interfaces, and open APIs
